TRIPOLI, JANUARY 4 – In a statement to the Aki-Adnkronos International news agency, the Libyan prime minister Fayez al-Serraj defined Italy “the European country closest to Libya”.
The bilateral relation is “the best”, Italy and Libya “consult all the time” al-Serraj said sending his congratulations to the new goverment led by Paolo Gentiloni. The Libyan prime minister recalled that Italy has been on the government of national accord side since day one and is doing all it can so that Libya will overcome the current crisis.
“We are cooperazione also on other issues of mutual interest”, al Serraj said. Among them is the migration crisis. Italy and Libya – announced the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Angelino Alfano on Wednesday – are working to reach an agreement to stem migrants departure and prevent human trafficking.
