SHAMA, MARCH 30 – The Millevoi Base in Shama, South Lebanon, headquarters of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, was chosen by the Lions Club of ‘Beirut Down Town’ and Galileo Galilei from Padua for their project on environmental protection.
After being received by the Sector West Commander of UNIFIL, General Ugo Cillo, the delegates planted eight Cedar of Lebanon trees in the green area surrounding the Base and chose to partner with Italian Blue Helmets to raise awareness on environmental issues.
During the day, district President Rania Bu Frem representing the Lebanese Lions, and Italian counterpart Fabiana Rossetto, expressed their gratitude to UNIFIL and the Italian contingent for their efforts in implementing Resolution 1701 of the UN’s Security Council. “We are delighted about UNIFIL’s Sector West commendable initiative”, General Cillo remarked, “we pay special attention to environmental protection in our every-day work, including our support of the many initiatives jointly carried out by civil and military participants.” (@novellatop/vb)
