ROME, MAY 9 – Bike to work: more and more people do it to offset the effects of urban pollution on the environment. A new parking plaza for bicycles has been officially opened in Rome at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The bike parking area will be instrumental to encourage the staff to use their “two wheels” for the daily commute. The Ministry’s Secretary General , Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni, and the Chief of Staff, Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado attended the launch of the new initiative.
The project is part of the Farnesina Verde initiative, launched almost ten years ago by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2010 in Brasilia the first photovoltaic solar installation at an Embassy was created in partnership with Enel Green Power, bringing together attention to the environment and promotion of the Made in Italy brand. The Ministry headquarters in Rome joined the program in 2012. Despite the relatively low level of irradiation of the British Isles, in 2015 the Italian Embassy in London became the first in the United Kingdom to go green after the installation of solar panels on the roof.
