MOSUL, MAY 25 – On the third day of his visit in Iraq, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Enzo Amendola travelled to Mosul to meet the Italian soldiers of Task Force Praesidium who are monitoring the security of the staff of Trevi Spa, the Trevi Group division specialized in special foundations and ground engineering, who in 2016 signed the contract for the maintenance and the safety of the Mosul Dam.
The dam is only a few kilometers away from the frontline of one of the main battlegrounds against Da’esh. “Italy is strongly committed to complete the repairs and at the same time to provide security to the staff. We are very aware of the strategic importante of this structure and we work at the best of our knowledge and experience. This is a unique operation in the history of peacekeeping”, Amendola said.
The Undersecretary then paid a visit to the Emergency Hospital in Erbil, where the Italian Ngo Emergency is providing medical care to Iraqis wounded during the conflict. Amendola then met the Vice-Secretary of PUK, Barham Salih, to discuss regional crisis and the stabilization off the country, and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan autonomous region, Nechirwan Barzani, with whom he discussed the training programs offered by the Trevi staff to the local workforce.
