ROME, JUNE 19 – A humanitarian flight of the Italian Cooperation Agency departed today from the United Nations Logistics Base in Brindisi headed to Entebbe, in Uganda. The expedition – relief supplies and emergency medical goods – will be delivered to the The items will be distributed Rhino camp for South Sudanese refugees in Uganda by the Italian NGO Acav, Associazione Assistenza Volontari.
“The humanitarian shipment -said the Minister of Foreign Affairs Angelino Alfano – consists of tents, water tanks, a water purification unit, first-aid and hygiene kits and waterproofing material for makeshift homes. Its total value, including transportation costs, is of nearly 300,000 euros.”
The Associazione Centro Aiuti Volontari di Trento (ACAV) will see to the distribution of supplies to the South Sudanese population currently living in Rhino Camp, located in the Arua Region, on the Ugandan Northern border.
The shipment adds on to the five million euros in emergency aid allocated for South Sudanese refugees, which Italy will announce during the Kampala Summit promoted by the Ugandan Government on 22 -23 June, with a view to facing up to the very severe humanitarian crisis that South Sudan is now experiencing.
