PALERMO, JUNE 20 – The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, and his Dutch counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bert Koenders, will attend tomorrow the closing ceremony of the Netherlands and Italy Model United Nations (NIMUN) at the Faculty of Law of the University of Palermo, with the participation of Italian and Dutch students.
The main topic of discussion involving the Italian and Dutch ministers will be cooperation within the UN, where Italy and the Netherlands share a two-year term as members of the Security Council. The presence in Italy of Foreign Minister Koenders is connected with the State Visit to Italy of the King and Queen of the Netherlands from 20 to 23 June.
“Shared values and goals are the basis on which our joint action rests within the United Nations,” said Minister Alfano.
“All through the past semester cooperation among the European countries sitting on the Security Council has been very intense. In particular, relations between Italy and the Netherlands have fully achieved the mutual commitment the two countries undertook in terms of promoting transparency, consultation and sharing information. Rome and the Hague cooperate closely both at a bilateral and at a European and Euro-Atlantic level, since Italy and the Netherlands are founding members and active advocates of both the European Union and NATO,” underlined Minister Alfano.
