NEW YORK, JULY 5 – North Korea successful missile launch of an intercontinental missile capable of reaching Alaska was a game changer. No longer can the country be dismissed as someone else’s problem; it’s now very much a US (and international community) nightmare. Calling on North Korea to abandon its provocative, illegal and self-isolating policies putting a verifiable and irreversible stop to its missile and nuclear programs, Italy assured the UN Security Council that it stands ready to work with all relevant stakeholders in order to devise additional and significant restrictive measures on Pyongyang.
“Maintaining the Council’s unity of purpose n this matter will be crucial”, the Italian Permanent representative Sebastiano Cardi told an emergency open-door meeting called by the United States, South Korea and Japan after the latest missile test of July 4th, the first ICBM by the DPRK.
