Alfano: ltaly confirms to be a superpower of culture and beauty: UNESCO sites in Italy are now 53

 

ROMA, 10 LUGLIO – ”The UNESCO meeting convened in Cracow has added two new Italian sites on the list of world heritage sites. The first is the primeval beech forest cross-border site between our Country and another 11 European States. The second is one of the pride and joys of Italian architecture: the Venetian defence systems built between the 16th and 17th centuries”,  said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano. He continued: ”With this result, Italy confirms to be the Country with the largest number of UNESCO sites in the world: 53; an authentic superpower of culture and beauty”.

”Today’s result is the fruit of the Foreign Ministry’s great diplomatic effort, compounded with the competence of the technical experts of the Ministry of the Environment and the advisors from the La Tuscia University present in Cracow: excellent teamwork has succeeded to provide the UNESCO Committee with decisive elements in support of the validity of our candidacies”,  Alfano concluded.
