Libya: Italian humanitarian flight brings medical supplies relief to Sabratha

ROME, AUGUST 16 – A humanitarian flight of the Italian Development Cooperation service took off this morning with a load of nearly 11 tons of relief supplies to be dispatched to the University Hospital of Sabratha, 80 km west of Tripoli, in Libya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano announced on Wednesday, August 16.

The Italian Air Force aircraft, carrying general-purpose medical kits containing emergency medical equipment and a variety of medicines, took off from the UNHRD base in Brindisi managed by the World Food Programme (WFP).

“With this donation, the Italian Development Cooperation service has met the appeal recently launched by the hospital of the Libyan port city, asking for direct aid in order to be able to treat their patients”, Minister Alfano said: “After landing in Tripoli, the relief supplies will be taken over by the Italian Embassy in Libya which will be in charge of subsequently delivering them to the final destination via land transport systems.” He concluded: “This is further proof of the Italian Government’s solidarity with all the Libyan people.” (@OnuItalia)
