KHARTOUM, SEPTEMBER 12 – The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) will again contribute in an initiative designed to promote the resilience and the living conditions of ex fighters in Sudan. A ceremony in Khartoum marked today the inauguration of computer material which the Italian Cooperation gifted to the Sudanese authorities.
The General Commissioner of the Disarmement, Demobilization and Reintegration Program (DDR), the Italian Ambassador Fabrizio Lobasso and the director of the Khartoum office of the Italian Agency for Cooperation Vincezo Racalbuto took part in the ceremony at the DDR Headquarters.
Last November AICS signed an agreement with DDR and UNDP for a financial contribution to the initiative “Improving the sustainability of the Community Security and Stabilization Programme” in the Blue Nile State, specifically in Damazine. The aim of that initiative was to create working opportunities for locals, refugees and displaced persons and former combatants of the Blue Nile State, in order to re-establish a social fabric, after recent conflicts.
This time hardware and software worth 25,000 Euros donated by the Italian government will be used in particular to identify and register former fighers so that the could be reiterate in the civil society as a priority for the Sudanese authorities. (@OnuItalia)
