The Italian delegation is led by Prime Minister Gentiloni, accompanied by the Foreign Minister Alfano, the Minister of the Environment Galletti, the Minister for Public Administration and Simplification Madia and the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Amendola.
On the sidelines of the General Debate, several meetings shall be dedicated to the main global current issues, including the Global Counterterrorism Forum, the ministerial meeting on Libya and Syria and a side event on Somalia co-chaired by Italy, the United Kingdom, Somalia and Ethiopia, with the attendance of the United Nations Secretary-General Guterres.
During UNGA week, Italy will organise specific side events, including one on protecting cultural heritage from terrorism and on the role of women as mediators, and will co-sponsor the Conference “Refugees and migrants: Italy’s approach between development cooperation and the need of security”, organised by the AVSI Foundation. All these events shall be hosted at the UN building in New York.
Minister Alfano has scheduled meetings, among others, with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Iraq, Qatar, Turkey, Ukraine and Yemen, in addition to the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya, Ghassan Salamé.
Minister Alfano has a first press meeting scheduled for 10:45 a.m., local time, on Monday, 18 September, at the end of an event on reforming the United Nations organised by the U.S. at the UN Building. (@OnuItalia)
