TRIPOLI, OCTOBER 4 – Italy has allocated 2 million Euros to upgrade Tripoli’s waste disposal and treatment system with new equipment and staff training, the Italian Embassy in Tripoli announced on its Twitter profile. “Standing by the side of the Libyan people”, the Embassy said on the microblogging site.
The goal of the new contribution provided by the Italian Cooperation is to improve living conditions in Tripoli through a more efficient urban solid waste collection and management system. Among the many problems of the Libyan capital, one is also the lack of waste collection, so that trash often is left abandoned along the roads and burned with negative effects on public health.
The money will be used to buy trucks and bins. UNOPS, the United Nations Office for Services and Projects, will manage the training. (@OnuItalia)
