Stefania Bait and Marco Demo are the new Italian Youth Delegates

ROME/NEW YORK, JULY 14 – The Italian Society for International Organizations (SIOI) has announced that Stefania Bait, from Trieste, and Marco Demo, from Motta di Livenza in the Treviso province, are the new Youth Delegates of Italy.

The United Nations Youth Delegate Program is the main tool through which UN Member States have the opportunity to include young delegates in their respective diplomatic missions, allowing them to represent the interest of young people at conferences and during the UN General Assembly. Affiliated directly with the UN, SIOI promotes the implementation of this program in Italy, an effort which first launched in 2017 in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI).

The program has now reached its fourth year. The new Young Delegates to the United Nations will represent the voice of their peers by participating in the most pressing international affairs, contributing to the 76th UN General Assembly, and holding a series of meetings aimed at promoting the program and supporting the role of young people as enactors of change.

Stefania Bait, 26, born and raised in Trieste, moved to Rome in 2015 to pursue studies in Industrial and Management Engineering at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She is currently in her second year of a PhD program in the Department of Business Engineering, in which she focuses on the development of the industrial sector in Africa.

She has grown from her numerous experiences in academia and personal life, “There are many experiences and choices that have allowed me to be the new young Italian delegate for the UN … but most of all the passion for my work and for social development issues were the real motivations that gave me brought up here. This is the message that I carry inside and that I will try to communicate to Italian youth during my term.”

Marco Demo, 24 years old, born in Motta di Livenza, has just graduated in Law from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan. Since secondary school, he has cultivated a passion for international relations as a member of youth associations, further developing this interest in various summer schools during his university period.

Having specialized in international law, and thanks to his experience in the Erasmus program, Marco has long appreciated the importance of cultural exchange. He has much experience as an educator for adolescents and representative of student councils.

“Being Italy’s Youth Delegate to the United Nations is a great honor for me. I will use this year to best advance the requests of Italian youth within the context of the United Nations,” he explained. “The representation of the reality Italian youth face is even more important in the pandemic context, especially because young people have suffered the greatest social, economic and educational repercussions.” (@BrittanyBryantF)
